Well, obviously, haha! I don't mean plastic trees or anything. I understand the song, and agree in many respects. I was just stating that I feel it sounds like one wishes to cover up the problem instead of fixing it.
Like having everyone walk around with smiles, being pleasant to one another, but not really meaning any of it. Of course, it talks about the facelift of inner being. That is what we need.
Sorry, didn't mean to imply that I think the song is wrong and that plastic surgery is what is being discussed, heh.

Deceptive Perceptions
Eyes... persuade the Mind Ears... believe the Lies One's own Society cries Such a wasted Fate Pre-programmed Hell Reality is just a state of mind And you can't believe the things you hear and see Getting caught in fear that climbs Escalating high For your inferior mind Can't cope with your right to decide Waiting for your life to be Having no ideas nor dreams to live Believing all of the others' beliefs Determining your fate eternally Your mind is free To believe in what you need To live and breathe Your destiny Each of us has ideas of their own Depicting original thoughts our own seeds to sow Believing what is right to be real Navigating one's own path to stray from ideals Waste your thoughts Follow their lies Believing the false Close your eyes Deceptive perceptions

This seems to once again come back to the topic of media's influence on our thoughts, but a bit deeper now to the point of not only the media, but society around us leading children and weak-minded teenagers and adults to follow a regimen of generally accepted beliefs that aren't absolutely certain.
Sure, mathematically 2+2 can be taught to be 4, but don't blindly follow people that tell you what to believe, unless they can back themselves up and it feels right to you! Discover for yourself and question everything until you're satisfied.
Blind faith, with no feeling of right, is no way to live.

Though I've begun talking to myself, I shall progress with another song. Perhaps this one will be less me and more SADUS!
Under The Knife
Hungriness of killing makes me all I am Exploration of death To heal is their plan Incision, scrutiny Futile plan failing Spawning all sickness Grotesque forms Taking what I want Leaving nothing for you All that is left will be mine in time Infection Sickly form of life Afflicted with incurable infestation Cutting into life Preserving mankind Cutting into life Under the knife Under the knife Under the knife Hungriness of killing makes me all I am Exploration of death To heal is their plan Cutting into life Preserving mankind Cutting into life Under the knife

This was "project 9" for the album. It was the last one written and we always have this kind of situation. There is always one song that comes in so last on the "get ready to record" list that it carries over into the studio. I wrote all the riffs realatively quickly and the idea for lyrics was posed by Darren. I had some minor surgery in late 1991 and before I went to the hospital Darren suggested that I recount my experience while "under the knife" and put it into song form. I think the title already existed as the working format before the words were written. After some time of recovery period I set out to pen the words of my experience. And it was getting dangerously close to studio load in, just a metter of a couple of weeks hence, I think. Well, the first draft didn't work out well... Trying to put into a brutal metal context things like: "consultation with the anethesiologist...watching the nurse shave my body hair...counting backward from 100...waking up with a nurses hand on my weiner...puking in the car on the way home from car sickness...limping around for a week..." well, you get the picture...! I guess there wasn't proper inspiration after what I went thru and felt at the time to write something that made Sadus-sense. And we were running out of time for the song to make the album. Since we didn't want to come out with an eight song album after making serious waves with Swallowed... Well, we needed to come up with something. And trying to stick to the same working format...I just rethought the whole cutting into life thing. It's an unbalanced dichotomy description of a disease pandemic spreading and cutting into human existance; along with some mad-possessed doctor surgeon dude who likes to operate with no intention of actually healing his unknowing victims. Not the most profound I know, but we used the excuse of cheesy-metal-brutality to justify the last minute attempt. But although it was a quicky, I thought it turned out pretty good considering. It would be a sign of some more things to come in the same manner for the future of "last minute project songs". But at the same time there were glaring faults in it that though it was written last, it was not to go in the running order last. That spot was saved for a much more thought out epic with much more cohesive lyrics... SDG

Yet another glimpse over the lyrical precipice into what is now Sadusland! Helluva way to write about the surgical experience. I can relate bro. My last trip to the OR, I opted for the local . . .Nothing like having a surgeon needling into joints n vertabrae while he's watchin it live via real time X-Ray. Whata Country . . . . .

Very, very nice, Steve. I appreciate your insight. However, in order to give an examination of this in how I interpret what the lyrics say, I'm going to just ignore the explanation you gave. My thoughts my cross your purpose in the theme though, as it should.
Hungriness of killing makes me all I am Exploration of death
By using a word like "exploration", it seems that though the killing is what defines the person, it isn't mindless. There's an attention to detail about it, learning about death with each and every victim. One doesn't kill simply for the enjoyment of it, but for the education of it.
To heal is their plan Incision, scrutiny
To heal what? The human race, of whatever they need to be healed? Perhaps there seems to be a moral collapse, and the murderer sees each of those amoral people as a tumor that must be examined and surgically removed from the body of society.
Futile plan failing Spawning all sickness Grotesque forms
Except, of course, that by removing these amoral people in such a fashion, they are themselves exhibiting amoral actions and making the human race appear poor in their values. They aren't seen as glorious for removing a cancer, but as the cancer themselves.
Taking what I want Leaving nothing for you All that is left will be mine in time
Not quite sure here...perhaps that when someone takes what they want, such as the education of death by killing those amoral people, they are robbing the innocent relatives of those victims of their family. The murderer gains the knowledge of death and it's many implementations and purposes, and leaves relatives mourning. The last line doesn't seem to match up very well with that idea, however, unless the murderer feels that once he removes all the cancer of humanity, he'll reign as the victor of morality.
Afflicted with incurable infestation
Amoral people are seen as incurable in the body of society, because it isn't within the power of the law to remove them by force unless they break some boundary we've previously set up. Not all amoral actions are stepping outside the bounds of society.
Cutting into life Preserving mankind Cutting into life Under the knife
This would be the doctor theme that Steve has mentioned, performing surgery on the human race to cleanse it of poor qualities that need fixing.
All in all, I think it's the same idea, minus the seeing death as a form of education. It is an interesting idea, though one I don't really care to investigate.

NES! Can't wait for EOA Bro~ Later~
Damn straight! I love EOA! No slight to the Sadudes, but it hits me deeper than O4B. Still, everything I've heard so far is great, just some has deeper marks on my soul. And now, as we come to the end of a Vision, we're left with Echoes Of The Forever. All is consumed by vanity Whims of short lived mortality Our desperate cries of pity Are carried on winds for eternity And lost in forgotten echoes... forever The more that is known The greater there is fear It's worthless to question It's useless to interfere What has already been Will come to pass again An altering is hopeless A chasing after the wind Minutes pass to hours Hours into years The years of your life Reflected in the mirror The mirror only shows The time that you can see But how can time exist Without eternity Revelations of mankind fade away Cries are lost, spray to the wind In revolutions of the world And echoes of forever In an endless circle the sun hides from our sight But as the circle is endless It returns after the night Nothing is new under the sun As past and future become one Though the tide retreats, perpetually from the shore It always returns itself As it has before Everything is meaningless Pure insignificance The past always leaves us But never to subside Recollections of memory And the future coincide In thought dwell the mysteries Eternally they reside Forever is the circle Forever are the tides

"In the end, there is no end."
A few words conjure infinite thoughts. I shall write more later, but now I must continue my reading. Yes, reading. A book.
To avoid posting once more, let me simply edit this one:
The human race is but a blotch in the span of the Earth's life. We came into existence late in the game. Our breakthroughs and revolutions over the ages mean nothing to such a small piece of history, as they aren't even visible. The song actually states "everything is meaningless", and thus, we don't matter. We learn we are a speck of dust on a shore of countless others, and we appear no different. Tomorrow, next year, a century from now, we will still be doing the same things and continue to be lost in the same ripple of time. So, what hope is there?
Even if you can't distinguish yourself in the course of eternity, nothing can, so distinguish yourself within yourself. Be proud of yourself, give yourself meaning, because in the end no one else will see what you've done, and all you can count on is your belief in yourself.

Well, we've reached the third album, "A Vision of Misery". I've decided to move on from Swallowed in Black for two reasons. The first is obviously due to my completion of analysis (even when it wasn't so deep). The second reason was to signal to those that are unaware that any analysis they want to add to Swallowed in Black should be done now. Then again, any comment on any song (that we've already covered) should be added if you feel it brings something to the table. So, welcome to misery (or Missouri, where I'm from). Through The Eyes Of GreedEyes of the Greedy See what they will Lust of the Flesh A need to fulfill The Fool and the Liar Must feed the desire The Will to acquire The Eyes of the Greedy will always Crave for more Feasting hungry Eyes on this worthless Horde The Eyes of the Greedy will see no Sleep or Rest Are you saved or enslaved Trapped by Need to have Feel it clench you Do you want to give in Through the Eyes the Will to see what they want to see Looking through the Eyes of Greed Feel Temptation burn Each earns his own Fate Each one has a will to Live Blind are the Eyes that Need Looking through the Eyes of Greed Eyes of the Greedy See what they will Lust of the Flesh A need to fulfill Looking through the Eyes of Greed Feel Temptation burn Each earns his own Fate Each one has a Will to Live Blind are the Eyes that need Looking through the Eyes of Greed For a lotta reasons I couldn't get to a number of tracks on AVOM. Work was f**kin off the hook the last few years and it has not been a good scene . . . .
I know from earlier discussions, SDG cites this as one of the tracks with biblical influence and I tend to agree with it's timeless tenets. To tack down a lesser road, I view the lyrics as seen through my own professional "world" that is rife with underhanded individuals, morally bankrupt grifters, risky strategies, with a constant "chess match" that goes on in order to survive, maintain credibility, influence your partners to go your own way, and hopefully reap the rewards. The ultimate dicotomy in all this is are you in it for only the $$$$$ or is this your life's work? Is it your passion? The Fool and the Liar Must feed the desire The Will to acquire The Eyes of the Greedy will always Crave for more Feasting hungry Eyes on this worthless Horde The Eyes of the Greedy will see no Sleep or Rest This poignant passage is for all who have ever watched the market gyrations occurring in our global markets and trading centers. Global news outlets broadcast daily(CNBC, CNNFN, Bloomberg) and it's the epitomy of observing "through the eyes of greed" on a daily basis. It's unforgiving, risky, much akin to gambling, and in the end, it's pure profit or loss. What impact would this have in our lives? Well, it is more and more a fact of our collective lives that what happens in one part of the world invariably will have an ever greater impact on our own lives whether we live on an Island, we live the European Union, Latin America, South America, or the USA. The reverberations of greed slice deep.
Keep It Heavy, understand why shit is happening, and do what you can to stay ahead of the Eyes Of Greed!

Slaves To Misery
Skilled Victims play their Games A cause of violence for Fortune and Fame Like all possessed they worship it all Money loving mercenary Risks it all Why can't you see the Intensity The High that was not to be With no decline it works every Time Until we had enough we'll see You can't get enough of the f**king Stuff The rotting of the Brains a Game Time after Time With the loss of a Mind You're crying out insanity You can't afford to be As f**king dumb as you seem You know the Price you can't Pay You Steal from one to Repay The Debts of Bets, you should Die Die Slave to Misery Causing Suffering Anything causing Pain Experiencing Agony Torment, Torture I don't want to see you Suffer Slave to Misery Causing Suffering
*This is one of my favorite SADUS Tracks~
There's such a timeless message to the lyrics of "Slave To Misery". There always seems to be a reason, a time, a place. It applies to any and all. No one is singled out here. Who's a victim? Was it a crime? What is right/wrong? Damned if I participate on a daily basis. . .. .If you don't, you lose.
I can go so many directions but I'll choose to keep it simple.
Skilled Victims play their Games A cause of violence for Fortune and Fame Like all possessed they worship it all Money loving mercenary Risks it all Why can't you see the Intensity The High that was not to be
This applies to those who are born, bred, educated, trained to succeed in this late 20th, early 21st Century Economic System. Really? It's amazing to think that it's the aspirations and hopes of the indigent, the poor, the working class, our Moms and Dads that attempt to instill in their children, "you are our only hope to succeed. You must succeed and bare fruit from the sacrifices of your family."
The attraction, the lure for fame, fortune, power, the need to succeed. Is it enough?
With no decline it works every Time Until we had enough we'll see You can't get enough of the f**king Stuff The rotting of the Brains a Game
Amazingly enough, after all the mistakes, the hardship, the sacrifice, you have arrived. A hard earned, etched, no regrets rise. Your ascent is dizzying in it's idealism; it's a clarity of purpose. Soon, you will find the rewards are fallow and short-lived. You find the intoxication of POWER numbing; overwhelming the actual consequences to your life source, your physical body. But the lure to POWER is unrelenting. All that matters is your place in the game.
Time after Time With the loss of a Mind You're crying out insanity You can't afford to be As f**king dumb as you seem You know the Price you can't Pay You Steal from one to Repay The Debts of Bets, you should Die Die
Where am I going with this lyrical translation?
Slave to Misery Causing Suffering Anything causing Pain Experiencing Agony Torment, Torture I don't want to see you Suffer Slave to Misery Causing Suffering
Eliot Spitzer, former Governer for the state of NY.
