NES, Great viewpoint for "The Wake" bro! As a timeline goes, we are but "droplets of existence" you look at the diversity of life on this Earth. Success begins as dreams, goals, or obsessions. What's seemingly insurmountable is the truth of failure. If you allow fear to consume you, there is no level of determination, or motivation that will pull you from failure's grasp. While immersed in this "wake of severity" we must learn to hold onto what's true. If not, your dreams will fall prey to the inevitable. Death as an analogy is a brilliant example. We can overcome tribulation and failure, to realize one's success while holding true to our ideals.
Darrin! When I think of the band and it's beginnings, the lyrics really synch with what you guys are about. It's quite an opportunity to read the thought from the songwriter himself. Look forward to your perspective in the future

Good Rid'nz
Struck down in a flash of pain Killed swiftly in its own domain Struggling for what is left Brutal shock, dismemberment Ineffective attempts to flee Body stuck to an instant grave Makes no difference left to be Can't you see the life in me is draining away? Destiny calls Don't fall Impending death Struggling to be Now freed Life passed on A million times struck down Body becomes fused to the ground Mangled body Flattened corpse Stench of rot Hammered carnage Crusting thing Maggots breed Degenerate Mortified Disintegrate Eroding bone Melts to stone Collapse to dust Good riddance Struck down in a flash of pain Killed swiftly in its own domain Struggling for what is left Brutal shock, dismemberment Ineffective attempts to flee Body stuck to an instant grave Makes no difference left to be Can't you see the life in me is draining away? Good riddance

I'm not sure if it's just me, or if these lyrics often illicit the images of physical violence and torture for everyone. I was trying to use the band/music relation for this song, but certain things don't fit very well to me.
Things that are currently itching me. What could be "killed swiftly in its own domain"? I'm not sure...as far as musically speaking, it could be about Sadus decimating the competition, even when they were going to play after a band who was normally from that area. One band plays, a regular in the club, and they get a good response. But then Sadus appears on the scene, steals the show, and the crowd totally loses interest in the hometown band. It's painful, quick, and they are left to get out of there to avoid any more embarassment. Of course, this doesn't fit certain aspects of the song.
The more violent concept is that of a person being struck down by lightning. There's a number of reasons for this:
struck down in a flash of pain killed swiftly in it's own domain - lightning strikes anywhere...even your neighborhood
brutal shock inaffective attempts to leave - peoples' muscles lock up when electricity flows through them
body stuck to an instant grave - die where you stand
a million times struck down body becomes fused to the ground - I'm sure a bolt of lightning is could kill you quite a few times...and burning flesh melts into the ground
stench of rot disintegrate collapse to dust - the dust is a bit comical, but yeah...bzzt! Zap! pile of dust
Now, I'm not really sure why it is "Good Riddance", but apparently it's good that the person is dead. Two things that I don't really have a support for is the idea that lightning could cause dismemberment (unless electricity causes you to explode) and the flattened corpse (unless lightning zaps all the fat out of you...)
BZZT!

BZZZT ;D I believe it's called Spontaneous Combustion!! ;D Darrin and SDG cover a vast territory of subjects for this album. GoodRid'nz revisits similar themes from previous tracks putting "obliteration" and it's graphic consequence as a more direct explanation. There is nothing more absolute then footage of a Nuclear Blast during the Cold War. US Defense Dept would film this devestation at testing facilities in Nevada for "scientific" advancement. Why preoccupations with Nuclear Holocaust? The Fear. The Superpowers of the Cold War built this end-of-the-world system, and it was hanging over all of our heads. We were fifteen minutes from some guy in a silo or a submarine pushing a button and erasing our existence. We might not even know the End was coming, and suddenly there it would be.
Take this translation of Good Rid'nz on another tangent: from the perspective of the individual: Struck down in a flash of pain Killed swiftly in its own domain Struggling for what is leftThe lyrics might be an analogy of how your circumstances can change at the flick of a switch. The root translation: Are we in control of our direction in life or is it the concept of "destiny" or "timing".
Can't you see the life in me is draining away? Destiny calls Don't fall Impending death Struggling to be Now freed Life passed on A million times struck down The song depicts with violent themes, the notion that if you fall, can you get back up or are you creating a self-fulfilling prophecy to fall again until you're lost? The challenge would be to recognize this behavior. Elevate yourself out of this loop before you're doomed to repeat it. Maybe Sadus is saying take the risk without regret . . .or disintegrate into oblivion . . .Good Rid'nz . .

Er, I kind of forgot about spontaneous combustion. A combination of not thinking lightning had anything to do with it, and the fact that it doesn't happen that often. I always like reading your stuff more than whatever I've come up with.

Steve wrote most of this one, if not all of the lyrics.. I think we were swimming at my dad's house, on Kean; where we first practiced... "in my bedroom"// shooting stuff back and forth between us.. you do a line ...i do a line.. Struck down in a flash of pain Killed swiftly in its own domain Struggling for what is left brutal shock dismemberment..
Well... we are describing an animal getting ran over by a car......... and what happens to it after..
I think i seen this dog that got ran over and just rotted away in the street.. I would drive by it everyday and no one ever picked it up or ? cars just kept on running it over and over until there was nothing left.. just a black spot.. kinda trippy..
wrote a song about it... want to hear it? here it goes......./d

False Incarnation
Contemplating death, untimely near It's not your death developing your fear Deteriorating state, hope is lost Your greed for life is beyond the cost Hoping for advancement, an invention, a cure Because of your disease your intentions are unpure Corrupted by moral values Spoiled by common wealth In your race for fortune You forgot to regard your health Self pity; shame to blame. Existence transferred to an alternate frame Cellular osmosis, frozen to paralysis Suspending the result of the ultimate nemesis Essence drained, exchanged for synthetics Drastic measures to alter genetics No reincarnation Eternal hibernation False incarnation Opaque destination Catatonic pleasure, anti-fluids numb the pain Robbing yourself of death, what did you expect to gain? Frozen fate, all thoughts cease Resisting the afterlife for nothing at all Truth distorted, path into darkness Cannot see what caused your fall Lying dormant, your seed of faith Has grown into a nasty vine Final chapter in the book of life Forever darkness stops the time Delaying natural death, for a fear of what's beyond Afraid to take that final step, to the place where you belong What you believed before Do you anymore? Or do you want to see Immortality? Looking out from the inside To a place you cannot Frozen in dark solitude Yearning to be free No one has awakened you A false destiny No reincarnation Eternal hibernation False incarnation Opaque destination False incarnation
Is there a word missing after "Looking out from the inside to a place you cannot..."? Just seems like the statement is incomplete. I don't have the CD/LP/Tape, so I don't know.

Aye NES, Another great song pick bro and thanks again for taking this to another level! Take's me back when I was in High School, where lyrical translation was poetic and deciphering album covers impressed the ladies;] . . . Thank you Led Zeppelin!!
I think the lyrics you referenced synch. May have more to do with the songs rhythm at that point or it could be an attempt at Iambic Pentameter . . . False Incarnation . . . Hmmm. . .? Either this is a continuation of "roadkill" dog's physical and spiritual demise or something completely visionary. . . .Gotta go back in time to 1988/1989. Where the F***'s my Delorean . . .?

Ironically enough, my dog passed away last night/this morning. He and my other dog got into a fight on Sunday night, and after realizing one was really hurt, we took him to a 24-hour veterinarian. They fixxed him up, but the next morning he was still seeming unusually weak and lethargic. We took him to our local vet, where they found the bite he'd gotten in the fight had given him an infection. We spent a lot of time down there, and decided we'd leave him at the vet while they gave him IV fluid treatment, which seemed to be working. The disadvantage of overnight, was that the local vet wasn't open 24-hours a day, so he was restricted to only the IV for support.
The vet had called us twice last night, letting us know that he was looking better and had been up and wagging his tail. I went to work this morning, called my mother and found out he hadn't made it. Apparently the infection made a comeback...I just hope it wasn't painful. I would hate to think that he was crying for help in his cage with no one there to hear him and come to his aid. I truly hope there's some afterlife for animals, so that we can see him again someday.
I'll really miss the little guy. He had a strong spirit.

I'm really sorry to hear about your pet man. I know he'll rest in peace. And I'm sure he did not suffer.

Actually, I think the last bit of that should probably be "To a place you cannot see" since skipping a line you have "free" to rhyme with. But that's just a guess. Seemed awkward.
Reading through the lyrics, it seems that this is less related to the dog from Good Ridn'z and more about a man who has some sort of disease that can't yet be cured. Yet, he has the money to try all sorts of medical tests and push death back as it approaches. It appears he becomes paralyzed, but even then trades out failing organs for synthetic ones. It becomes where he has removed what essense of human nature he has and just become a body being kept alive on a table. Death has been pushed away (at least while his money lasts).
Incarnation n. a. A bodily manifestation of a supernatural being. b. One who is believed to personify a given abstract quality or idea. c. A period of time passed in a given bodily form or condition.
While this does characterize "c", I think the song more refers to "a", as the man is trying to become someone who needs not fear death because it cannot touch him. He doesn't want to be merely human, prone to disease and failure, but to be constant. Unfortunately for him, he's put himself in a position that he cannot win, and is ultimately unhappy with life.
Which leads me to my initial thought after reading this: PULL THE PLUG!

NES,You touched a number of points I was thinking of as well. Great definition. Allows for greater clarification for sure. My mind went on to the checklist of usual suspects: misanthropist, hypocritical, narcissitic, arrogant. False Incarnation seems more like an indictment of the neverending pursuit of the "greenback" . Which invariably leads to an indictment of the "powerful". Power to control anything you touch including playing God. No amount of power, money, influence will save you from inevitability.
