Thanks Joarel. ;D
Images
Oppressed by darkness in the mind, unleashed action Illusions forming to a substance, manifestation Confused beyond reality, false-fact-fusion Engulfed chaotic interlude, obscure vision When the sick mind is left to rule... Confusion grows, thoughts intertwine Memory is a blur in a scenario of time Details are exposed, but remain ignored Things that are real, are found in a dream The way in which to see things is not what it seems Looking for answers, in a mirror that is blank Images overlap Reflections deviate Images overlap Reflections deviate Vengeance, sickness claims its spite, twisted memory Unbalance of fantasy and reality, ruptured harmony Fiction animated falsely, materialized There's no reason for deception, there's no lie When the sick mind is left to rule... Vast capacity of imagination Within focus of concentration Abstract input disrupting aim Course of option appears the same A rapid static flashing glance Only a sudden random chance When reasons defy reality Insight has no authority Visions that reality hid Victimized by the Id That's the reflections I despise Or is it true the mirror lies? The truth is clouded from my sight Radiating heat not light Mirages forming identity Thoughts becoming entity Images overlap Reflections deviate Images overlap Reflections deviate

Here's a very vague idea...or maybe a summary: As the mind withers away, due to disease or old age, it can no longer process memories and reality in a way that always makes sense. Sometimes, people grow senile, or sometimes delusional, and awareness of time stops. It becomes hard to remember how long ago a certain thing happened, and the mind might think an event that happened 14 years ago had just taken place. In the meantime, it must interpret what the eyes let it see and when it can't find a suitable place for both what it remembers and what it sees, it merges the two together and forms thoughts that are unreal.
If you've ever had met and spent time with someone who's senile or has Alzheimers, then you know what I'm talking about. I once met an old lady at church who had Alzheimers. I had talked with her, and she'd given me a toy (I was much younger). Later on she had to be reintroduced to me again, because she didn't know who I was. Her daughter moved her to Florida (southeast USA) from Missouri (center USA) and away from her husband, because the daughter felt the husband couldn't take care of her anymore.

Morning NES and the rest of the Sadudes on the Board,
Great examination once again. You're dead on when it comes to Senility, Alzheimers, or those who have suffered a stroke. Aphasia serves as a prison cell for the mind. You're saying many things in your mind but your brain cannot intonate the verbal language out to those around you. It's a painful experience to observe and live through.
It's feelin a bit like fire and brimstone in Cali my friend! Which gets me to my thoughts regarding "Images". Hold on, this might feel like I'm all over the board, but here it goes. The lyrics from "Images" conjure "the mirage" we all face in our daily lives. What we see moments before is not necessarily reality. This is akin to having your sanity grasp for the "proverbial" vine to avoid one's collapse into quicksand. How will you remain focused? Will you survive or be consumed by the predatory strategies of madness?
Another thought~ "Images" could be the firsthand account from the participants that inspired "Twisted Face". If you ever witnessed someone "cranked up" 4 days straight, you could easily get a sense the lyrics follow a torturous meth induced psychosis. Growing up in Antioch Delta region, they used to call it the "crank capital of the world". There were alot of "C&C's" aka Cooks and Chemists financed in the early 70's by regional biker gangs or organized drug runners. If you ever saw Mickey Rourke in "Spun" or Val Kilmer in "Salton Sea" then you'll know where I'm coming from.
FYI~ Work's gonna be off the hook this week as I get ready for a much needed two+ week vacation. I'll be back the week of August 14th. Until then, keep on keepin on!

Joa, do you want me to hold this next one until your return? Considering it's mostly me and you, it doesn't seem right for me to run through the rest of SiB alone. Anyway, whether or not this one stays up for a few weeks, here's POWERS OF HATE!Powers of hate Are directing your thoughts And lead me to believe In what you are not Anger drives you To inflict others' pain Now feel the rage Consuming your brain Committing revenge now regulates Your unguided ways to manipulate Logic dies with bitter frustration Anxiety feeds your slow damnation How can this be right? Your way of looking through me Seeing beyond your lies It's just your way to use me All anger that you feel Its driving force surrounding you Forget your words of hate The power that's confounding you Reason to not forgive Breaking down your tolerance Can't you tell it's wrong Not believing in the consequence Into the recesses of your mind Mysterious shadows unidentified Shrouded by fears of the darkest kind And there your being lies classified This reign of hatred and despise This weapon of spite caused you to lie What is kept secret behind your eyes Is now my fear of the truth denied

I suppose I shall start and see if anyone else is willing to comment, and if not, perhaps I'll leave it until Joarel returns. Still, most of this seems rather clear.
The song describes prejudice, racism, the fear and hatred of the unknown or misunderstood. At least, that's how I see it. Someone who is so filled with hatred for a particular "kind" of person that they let that rule them and don't give things common thought when it comes to dealing with others of that "kind". Stereotyping, for instance, when it comes to race or a community. During the Cold War, for instance, I'm sure being a Russian-American would not be a good position to be in. People might fear you, believe you're a spy, or think that you hate them just because of where you come from. Sure, this isn't always the case, but I believe it's a feasible argument.
However, once we reach the end of the song, something I noticed made me rethink what I was saying.
Into the recesses of your mind Mysterious shadows unidentified Shrouded by fears of the darkest kind And there your being lies classified This reign of hatred and despise This weapon of spite caused you to lie What is kept secret behind your eyes Is now my fear of the truth denied
These words made me rethink what I had said and few it from a slightly different angle. What if, yes, there is a hatred burning within someone towards a particular group of people. But, taking the example of the Russian-American, what if the hatred isn't towards Americans, but towards their former brothers and sisters of Russia. Someone who turns against their friends and family and hates them, because that is the only way they feel they can exist inside a society where they're singled out. Or because they do fear the Russians because of what they've heard, read, and seen, though they don't really know what they're like since they were never there themselves.
Shrouded by fears of the darkest kind And there your being lies classified
This caused me to think that the people that you fear might really be who you are as well, though you don't want anyone to know your own heritage.
What is kept secret behind your eyes Is now my fear of the truth denied
No one else knowing that you are indeed one of those who you spell hatred for. Because it's far worse to hate someone who is just like you than to hate someone who shares your ethnicity/nationality for a reason aside from the ethnicity/nationality itself.
I know, I was all over the board with this one. Hopefully you can find something you agree with or at least sort through my shift of thoughts (as I didn't edit anything, even when the next phrase changed my mental image).

NES and the Sadudes I'm back, fully charged and ready to F#$%^&* SCREAM . . .! Quite a poignant song selection when you consider the precarious nature of recent events . .. NES, I like how you've traversed this nuances of this song. For each new generation, we must grapple with timeless issues and search for whether modern civilization? has the courage to say "ENOUGH" and do something about it. Now before I totally "cliff dive" off the subject . . . . .Here's an alternate thought pattern from my sarcastic existence . . .!! Yes, it is possible to lyrically bridge DEATH & SEPULTURA!
In "Powers of Hate", I think the Sadudes let ALL who pissed them off have it!! POW, KRSPLAT, PMMPH, BOOM!!
To expand, I think the moniker for "hatred" in this case should be all the "bull>s>h>i>t" one lives through growing up in a community where your not accepted or your different from the rest. The usual suspects? Some are parents, family members, neighbors, clergy, school teachers, principals, who's "prevailing view" is shaped by closed minded ignorance, arrogance, and evangelical soundbites. As with every community, your racial, physical condition(health), and economic class often determined where you resided in this "pecking order". The rest is an uphill climb. "Lord Of the Fly's" doesn't just happen on an island . . Wrote some commentary about it. Here it goes~!
Conformity can be harsh, often alienating those with the most potential. But some in the community wield powers of conformity to breed hatred. It is transmitted to children at an early age. Ignorance reigns as it becomes clear in the following statements I used to hear growing up. "Don't move to Pittsburg, CA. They have blacks, filipinos, and mexicans."; "Don't hang out with Frankie, he's Mexican. Is he in a gang?"; "Do you know Anna's Family has horns on their head and have a tail?(Anna was Jewish)
In our social interaction as kids, if your scent was picked up and you were deemed "weak", or a "problem", the momentum of alienation took care of the rest. "Sonny, behave!"; "Sonny, keep your hands to yourself!"; "Sonny, why were you absent again?"; "Sonny, are you stupid?; "Sonny, sit still!"; "Sonny, stop hitting!"; "Sonny, are you sick?"; "Sonny, why do you talk like that?" etc. This is only the beginning. You get the point? Your behavior, your personality, your confidence becomes shaped by the warped expectations and limitations forced down your throat. It is only a matter of time before you are a failure . . .
Ah yes, now we're hitting to some bedrock! It's Iron at it's core and total thrash metal! Do you think the Sadudes had to put up with alot of this bull>s>h>i>t? The odds are good.

Nice to see you back, Joa. And thanks for that commentary.
I suppose your comment about how appropriate the song selection is refers to the recent Iran Holocaust Cartoon exhibit? Or, all the hatred in general. It's getting rather annoying.
I suppose we should move on.
Arise
Feasting on rancidness Not seeing through the self-accusing lies Are hordes of wormly cowards Who hesitate and fail to bring their dreams to life Oppression Quickening Aspirations Left unseen Lost in occupations Becoming socially secured Life's manipulation Age endures Accepting circumstances Resentment uncontained Quality of existence Capitalistic gains Can't you see Your destiny? Living free Doing what you feel and think is real Or do you just fail to see? BLIND Can't see through your own mind Cast yourself to live this lie Blackening out natural dignity Forcing in abnormal functioning Losing desire your will to leave This life you built so easily It's time... to live Rise Ascend from below to blaze a trail through life Follow your lead and succeed your destiny Arise Alive Strive to live and live to please your mind

Sorry it took me a while to actually go through this, but I was just not feeling up to analysis. Anyway, after reading through this, it seems to simply be stating that some people don't push themselves to be all they can. They settle down into their lives, don't get mad, don't aspire to be better than what they are already. They simply believe that what they have is all there is and there is nothing they should be doing to better themselves.
One should strive for their dreams, regardless of whether it seems impossible to achieve. We all need something to live for, not to live for nothing.
Of course, this is a really shallow analysis, but it grazes what I believe is being said.

NES, Sadudes, and the VODB board, Gotta love "Arise". When Darren and SDG sat down to work on this, they no doubt looked around at friends, family(F&F) who were choosing their own path. Some pathes were destructive. With some F&F falling to the hounds of addiction. Others did not make it, or ended up behind bars. But more often, other individuals chose a safe path. Working at the local steel, chemical plants, paper mills, or for the local utility companies. A few went on to college, earned degree's, became doctor's, lawyers, businesmen/women, and even politicians. They are safe, accepted occupations the community would approve of. What do they all have in common? Mediocrity, conformity, and "selling out". It's not called a "rat race" for nothing.
"Arise" is NOT about taking the road less traveled. It's about forging ahead in the darkness not knowing where you will end up. It's creating the F+U+C+K+I+N+G road for other's to follow!! It's about attacking your fears head on. Look around you. Who else was attempting the path the Sadudes took in 1984 from Antioch, CA no less? They were the only one's from that area taking this fringe speed/thrash metal direction. With this explanation, I think the meaning of "Arise" can be truly understood. Respect to the Sadudes for doing it their own way and not selling out or giving up.

The final track for this album...one more discussion.
Oracle Of Obmission
Mindless fools listen To a brainwashing, false doctrine Live to obey As they tune into the oracle each day Embedded in the brain of the potentially insane Susceptible to be deceived easily The prophet for the blind is possession if the mind A manipulation of the public's domination I'm the influence of suggestion Your life is my obsession I'm the voice of the media The power of propaganda I've given to you my system Of which you'll become a victim A system of conformity Forfeit of your liberty So careless, you are, of your destiny So confused, of what, has come to be Your life, your worth, you've given up to me Believing, my words, I've become your deity A hollow shell of what you used to be Your life-form drained of mentality Thoughts are ruled by complexity As you're numbed, and sink into dormancy Categorized in societies dominion As a glitch of that non-exception Deceived by the generalized opinion A meaningless specter a lifeless zombie your ice is thin Trust in false gods, only to be deceived again Your fate is as shallow as the grave you rot in Mindless fools listen Live to obey A life of submission, to the oracle of obmission A life of submission, to the oracle of obmission A life of submission, to the oracle of obmission

The last song of a revered album.
The song says it itself. The media. Manipulation. Weak minded fools!
I admit that I have been, and probably continue to be, manipulated by what the media and the government chooses to have us know and believe. We are fed half-truths, twisted manipulations that aren't quite lies, but undoubtably have another side to the story. And because "it's on the television", "it's on the internet", "it's on the radio", "the newspaper", "my barber told me..." then it must be true! When most of us are either too lazy, too gullible, or too apathetic to care about what is really going on, that's when we are no longer in control.
Propaganda, especially during the Cold War, was (I'm sure) disfavorable to the Russians if one was in the USA. The same was true for Russia. The news tells us that the World Trade Center has been attacked by planes manned by terrorists from Al Queda. Yet, they don't discuss what we could have possibly done to have caused them to feel they were warranted in such an attack. I do not mean to say that it was justified, just to say that we never were given that perspective. We're biased, and we leave things out when it favors our position.
So, if you could convince an entire population of something to further your own agenda, even if it meant leaving out critical pieces of information, would you? I know a government or two that would.

"The Black" is one of my favorite SADUS tracks. Wow! I'm beginning to like this now. ;D Of course the reality of it is horrible. I can just imagine with the sorts of regulations that used to be bypassed. That families living near the rivers down by a chemical plant would doubtlessly have side effects from their location. Dumping toxins and killing the environment to save a few bucks instead of going for safer disposal. I know Steve said that they write about their world as they see it, which is basically the town they live in. Just...it sucks to think of how f**ked up it could have been to live in an industrialized area 20-40 years ago (could actually suck living in one today as well). But I really felt that, after reading the lyrics, that it applies to a striking degree today. We're still killing our atmosphere, dumping a remarkable amount of trash into overflowing landfills, and despite improvements, our technology is still killing our environment. We're f**king stuff up.
